Junction view on Nuvi 3597 has stopped working after updates

I recently updated my Garmin Nuvi 3597 with latest map updates and firmware. These were CN Europe NTU 2016.10. Europe DEM. CN Europe NTU 2016.20 3D and CN Europe NTU 2016.20 Benelux & France. The Software version is 5.10 and the GPS Firmware is 3.05.10. This was following a message on my Garmin Express.

I now find that the Junction screen view does not work. I've contacted Garmin support and re-installed the latest map from Garmin Express - no change. They then suggested a master re-set - again no change. I am now told that I need a replacement (the GPS is only fifteen months old!) and they will charge me £101.59 for the privilege!
a) Has anyone got an answer for this and
b) Should I have to pay for a replacement when the fault was due to their updates?
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Did you mean CN EU 2016.10 as the first map in your post? If so that may be your issue as the latest map is 2016.20.

    I'd try running Express again and reinstall the map as it's possible the install didn't complete. Once Express reports it has finished ensure you do a safe eject, as otherwise Windows could still be writing files to your nuvi.

    I am sorry that you are having trouble with your maps. It would make sense based on what you have written that you are missing your JunctionView. Somehow, it looks like you only have the 2016.20 version of Benelux and France so your Junction View in the UK wouldn't exist. I am not sure how this would have happened but your 2016.20 Benelux and France maps and the 2016.10 Full Coverage of Europe maps should be removed and replaced with the 2016.20 Full coverage of Europe maps.

    Unfortunately, I am not sure what maps you have where on your device so it would probably be best to contact support again so we can go through the files on the device with you.

    Many thanks Jason for your comments and advice. I just downloaded the maps and updates as invited by Garmin Express hence the list of maps on my GPS and SD card. The points you raised were never addressed by Garmin support - just doing a master re-set. What you say seems very logical. Anyhow, since I posted this problem, Garmin Support has been in touch again and they have agreed to arrange a replacement under the warranty as a goodwill gesture. I have therefore sent it off today with the RMA number provided.

    What I don't want to happen is a repeat of this situation as, in the past, I have simply checked every so often to see if the GPS requires any updates and download them with no trouble - I rely on the expertise of Garmin and assume that the instruction and updates are correct for my equipment. I'm not sure what else I can do?

    Many thanks for taking the trouble to assist me in this matter. As you will see from Jason's post and my reply, Garmin are going to give me a replacement.

    Garmin support asked me the following; "The latest maps we have available is City Navigator Europe NT 2016.10 or NTU 2016.20, if you do not have this then I suggest to update the maps to make sure you have the most up to date mapping on your device". These were on my GPS!

    I re-installing maps from Garmin Express on three occasions even though it informed me that I was up to date!
    Fingers crossed the replacement will solve the problem and somehow I can make sure it doesn't happen again.

  • The latest NT map is also 2016.20, but in any case your nuvi should be using the NTU map hence my query about the 2016.10 map you mentioned was on your device. However immaterial now if you're getting a replacement.
