Fenix sync to Connect website

Do Garmin Express and Garmin Connect mobile (android) upload only FIT files to Connect web site?

I use Garmin Fenix 1, have some activities (hiking) in GPX only and some (running) in FIT only. Everytime i sync the watch to Connect website it is only FIT files that get uploaded.

I have to upload the GPX files manually. Is this how the sync should behave? I had an impression the both Express and Connect mobile will sync GPX, TCX and FIT files.

I use:
Fenix 1 SW Ver 5.00
Express Ver 4.1.10.0
Connect Mobile Ver 3.1.0.1

.gpx files are not uploaded to Garmin Connect using Garmin Express. Those file must be manually uploaded so you have been following the correct process for this.
