Download of maps so slow....

I have a nuvi 3598 and lifetime maps. After being notified that the 2016 maps are available, I connect my sat-nav to Garmin Express and it starts to download.

It tells me to keep my device plugged into the computer during installation.

However, despite the fact that I can download data at 30 MBPS, after 13 hours it's stuck on "estimated time remaining: 1 hour 33 minutes". I'm in the UK if that has any bearing on things.

This isn't the first time - every time I have to get new maps it always takes an age. I've spoken to Garmin support but the response I get is similar to a shrug of the shoulders. I can download big files from anywhere in very quick time, just not from Garmin it appears.

  • Is this just me, or does anyone else experience this?

Thanks

Griff
  • My system is good to go. I have 150/150 connection. Garmin express downloads at 5. It's a Garmin server issue pure and simple. If not that its a problem with express. I'm very disappointed.

  • Can't be or we'd all suffer the same way, and most including me don't. Call Garmin so you can get detailed help if the FAQS posted above don't resolve your issue.

  • Such a shame that Garmin's map update system is so inefficient. We are stuck loading these +4gb map updates everytime when comparing the differences the changes could be small only few MBs which would be much easier to update. I suppose it wasn't implemented that way years ago so it would cause problems with older devices

  • Closing this thread as it was started years ago and is drifting off topic, anyone with a problem downloading maps please start a  new thread. Thanks
