Transfer POI's Without Express

I have a faulty Nuvi 2597 which is not recognised by Express. It is found as a drive on my PC.
Can I copy my POI's to a new device without using Express?

Thanks.
  • You can manually copy current.gpx to your new nuvi. Rename it something other than current.gpx and place it in the GPX folder. Reboot your nuvi and all should be well. Then delete the file you've copied.

Thank you for your help. I will try it tomorrow. :D

Just to clarify, the current.gpx file contains all of the saved places on the device so copying and renaming this file will transfer these places. If it is truly POIs that you would like to transfer, copy the contents of the POI folder.

    Hi Jason

The POI's that I want to copy over are delivery points that I have saved to my old, faulty device. Do I need to copy the contents of the POI folder in order to transfer these?

    Many thanks.

As long as you can still access the device via the computer you can copy the current.gpx file from the %:\Garmin\GPX\ folder to the GPX folder on the new device. I recommend that you rename the current.gpx file to current1.gpx before placing it on the new device.

If Garmin Express doesn't detect the nuvi 2797 please see the information in the FAQ below:

  • Just to be clear here, you must rename the current.gpx file that you copy across to something different. Simply replacing current.gpx will not work.
