Garmin Express won't download ANYTHING

Hi, I have a Windows 7 64 bit pc which is up to date, I'm trying to update my Garmin Nuvi 2595 from 2015.40 City Navigator NA to 2016.20. I have the latest Garmin software (GE 4.1.8.0), GCPI (4.2.0), etc... I am NOT using wifi, but direct Ethernet cable connection to a high speed connection. I have verified that I have connection to the Garmin servers. I have cleared 22 GB of space on the computer where I am trying to save the map. I also have 5.69 GB of free space on the device itself. However, I have tried Computer only, Device and Computer and Device only with no success. Garmin Express just says "There was an error installing the update". I have even tried to simply download a single vehicle icon without success. It just says "Failed".
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Garmin Express. I have a lifetime map subscription. The error is very vague and I don't know where to look next. I tried emailing Garmin Support - b/c their phone hours are no good for me. Their only "worthless" suggestion was make sure you're using the Garmin cable and you're not on wifi. Yes, it is the Garmin cable and my device connects to the software and goes into media transfer mode.

Does anyone have the answer?

Added more memory still can't download even a 4kb vehicle icon

Did Garmin forget to include Windows 7 with their new Garmin Express update? I remember reading on a different forum that they happened to release the 2016 maps on the same day as Windows 10 release. I missed the first 2016 map update, but now with the new software Garmin Express 4.1.8.0 I can't download or install any items to my Windows 7 64 bit computer or to my Nuvi 2595LMT which has 34 GB of free space.

All I have is Windows 7. I can't try a different OS. My Windows update has been run daily while trying to troubleshoot this issue and it still says I am up to date. I have .Net Framework 4.5.2, I am using the Garmin Media transfer cable directly to the computer (no hub or other items in-between).

I also saw a few people on YouTube saying you have to delete your old maps, before your new maps will install. This scares me and I didn't do it, especially since I can't even get icons it doesn't seem to be just a map issue, but more like the software isn't compatible in some way!

    Help!!!
  • Garmin Express 4.1.9.0 was released last week. Try updating to the current version and see if the update still gives the error.

If the update still fails, there may be other issues that will require more troubleshooting and it would be best to contact Product Support by phone for further assistance.

    4.1.9.0 Doesn't Work Either

    Thanks Lisa,

    But NO.

Firstly Why wasn't 4.1.9.0 available from the web download? I found it on a mirror site. Garmin site only has 4.1.8.0 which wasn't updating itself no matter how many times I tried. Second, the only difference I see is that 4.1.9.0 checks for software updates, but I still get the same errors. I have contacted support, but the phone hours do not work for me so it is all through email. I can't take a day off of work just to get my Garmin updated. They only operate the phone lines Mon - Fri during my work hours.

My windows 7 is up to date. I have Garmin Communicator Plug in 4.2.0. I have tried four different browsers (as my default), the LAN settings are set to Auto detect any proxy (which I don't have one - its all direct). I am not using wifi, but high speed Cat-VI connection. I have .Net Framework 4.5.2, I have GE 4.1.9.0 now, but there is no difference.

On another forums advice, I even tried creating a new profile on my computer in case my profile was corrupted (which doesn't seem likely). The new admin profile didn't make any difference either. I've also tried with the firewall - antimalware and popup blockers turned off - no difference. Still can't get my map updated or even a new vehicle icon.

I am sorry for the troubles. Garmin doesn't have any official mirror sites so anything you download from another URL could have a modified installer. I do not recommend this. I tested the two Garmin URLs below and they both delivered 4.1.9. I see that the the City Navigator 2016.20 update was unlocked to your device tonight at 9:53:29 PM. This would indicate that you were able to complete the download of the map. It is activated(unlocked) toward the end of the map update process shortly before the map update file is copied from your computer to your device.

    Garmin Express download locations:
    http://software.garmin.com/en-US/express-download.html#win
    https://connect.garmin.com/en-US/start/

If you continue to have troubles my next suggestion would be to delete the device from Garmin Express then delete the Map_Map.NA.2016.20 folder at the location below then add the nuvi to Express and try the map update again.

    C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\Map\Map_Map.NA.2016.20

Again, I am sorry for the troubles.

Garmin Express is NO GOOD! Update via Garmin MapUpdater!

I was never able to get Garmin Express to work. (since the latest versions have come out - it used to work [2014 and 2013], but not now!)

I am happy to say that I did finally get my map updated, but that was through Garmin Map Updater v3.3.4

    http://download.garmin.com/lmu/GarminMapUpdater.exe

Garmin Express needs serious reworking, rewriting and troubleshooting. It does not work.

Garmin employees are claiming that 4.1.9.0 version came out on Oct 21st, but I've only been trying to download and upgrade since Oct 23rd. In other words Since Oct 23rd through today the official Garmin website only offered 4.1.8.0 which as many people are finding (from the various forum posts I have seen) does not work.

I would attach screenshots for you, but alas this forum has also failed me and isn't taking my 60kb attachments. Ridiculous.

    Still No

Since a staff member graciously provided the proper "official" link to 4.1.9.0, I went ahead and uninstalled what I had gotten from the mirror site and installed the official one (no difference noted between the mirror or official btw). Then I proceeded to add my already updated Nuvi just to see if I could get vehicle icons, etc. NO.

As I stated before the Garmin Express latest versions are no good.

They need to fix this. Or Keep the MapUpdater software going because that program actually worked! Garmin Express is useless to me (and others).

    Please fix GE!

    Thanks and Goodnight

May I add that Garmin Express, in most cases, had never properly worked. Please consult Garmin forums. In all such cases, if I correctly remember, only MapUpdater has ALWAYS correctly worked and obviously still works now. Why, since so many years, is Garmin no able to fix it? Regards, E.
