Garmin Express sync takes forever/doesn't work (Forerunner 310xt)

Title pretty much says it all...I turn my Garmin on to sync it and the sync starts on my computer and never finishes. Like, "the bar never gets past 10%" never finishes; it's not even close.

I got the watch in April and I've been using it to run/bike/swim ever since. Swimming is "meh" because the GPS is about as accurate as a scud missile underwater.

What are my options? I don't want to master reset...but I can if I need to. I used my phone today to bike. Not a fan.

Any advice is appreciated.

    Try deleting old data

    I recommend you to take a note pad, and write all the activities that you do before the Connect update, then try deleting all data and add them manually to the Connect.
    I used to keep my old data on my 910, but now it seems that if you want to keep you Connect updated, you should only use new data.

    I am sorry for the troubles.

    Based on your description there is data that will not upload or is causing an interruption in communication between Express and Connect. Please use the FAQs below to make sure your time, date and time zone are correct on your computer then check for files that cannot be uploaded to Connect.

    Activity files that have been pulled from the watch reside in the Sync\FIT_TYPE_4 folder before they are uploaded to Connect. If there are files in this folder you can add the .FIT file extension to the name then manually upload them. If Connect refuses the files then they are corrupt and should be deleted.

    To manually upload activities to Garmin Connect:

    • Connect device to computer using USB cable
    • Sign into Garmin Connect
    • Click "+" icon in top right corner of page
    • Click Upload Your Activities
    • Click Manual Upload tab
    • Follow on-screen instructions


    A good practice with the 310XT is to delete the activities after they are successfully uploaded to Connect. If the memory on the 310XT gets full it is more likely to have sync issues.
