My Garmin Approach G8 says it has Version 2.80 of the software on its screen. On synching with Garmin Express, Garmin Express says it has software version 2.50 and is up to date. Why is there a different software version showing in Garmin Express to the device?
I have looked up the latest SW version for the Approach G8. The software is on version 2.50 so you are up to date. When you go internally to see what version you are running the device displays 2.80? If this is so I am not sure where this number is coming from.
What you can do is connect the G8 to the computer. Once the device is detected and the drive letter shows up explore the device folders. Open the Garmin drive then open the Garmin folder. Inside this folder should be a file called GarminDevice.xml. If you double click this file it should open with Internet Explorer which is fine. Towards the top of this file you should see a line of information that looks like <SoftwareVersion>250</SoftwareVersion>, This is the firmware on the device which would be the 2.50 that Express displays and that is actually on your unit.
In reviewing the information you provided, I noticed this information:
<PCB>Approach G8 V7 </PCB></Model><ID>1</ID>
This is not something we typically see in a any device, let alone a Europe, Australia and New Zealand build device, which you have. Where did you purchase your device?
As for the discrepancy in the system software, this could be because the Approach G8 is a Europe, Australia and New Zealand build, or there could be something going on with the device so it would be helpful to know where you purchased it from.
