Course Transfer Error - 310XT

Hi,

I'm trying to send courses to my watch, and I am getting a popup error that says "Some files could not be sent to your device." with the course name and "(Transfer Error)" listed afterwards. The main Express window has the green "Sync Complete!", but my courses are not on my watch.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Express, deleting the Program Data folder, re-pairing with my watch with Express, soft resetting my watch, removing all items from the sync queue, trying to sync older courses that have worked before, and even removing all the history and courses on the watch. None of these have worked for me.

I had this problem not too long ago but just ignored it, I need some course maps for the route I am doing next weekend though. I have a suspicion the error might be with a newer update to Express as I've never had an error syncing courses before with my watch. Is there an archive of old Express versions that I can try installing?

I know master reset is probably going to be a recommended action. I would really prefer to hold off on this unless absolutely needed. It's a pain to re-configure all the settings and go through and pair all my sensors. I will consider this as an absolute last resort.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I am sorry for the troubles. This is not a error specific to a newer version of Garmin Express. It usually has to do with the Course file being sent to the 310XT. How was the Course created in Connect? If it was created from a .gpx file uploaded to Connect then it will fail to Sync. The Course has to be created manually or be saved as a course from an activity uploaded from the 310.

Considering all the trouble shooting you have done it sounds like Connect is not able to create the Course file. If Connect is creating the file it will be in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Devices\UnitID of the 310\Sync\Downloads\FIT_TYPE_6 folder after you send it to the device in Connect. Check this folder for any files and delete them then clear the Sync que and try again. Try another Course as well.

We are off work in 5 minutes so if you continue to have trouble I suggest you contact Garmin Product Support by phone so hopefully the master reset can be avoided.

  • Thanks for the advice Curt. It appears that the courses are not downloading into the folder specified in your original post. This is the case with some new courses I recently created, as well as some older courses that I have previously uploaded to my watch in months past. All of the courses I have in Garmin Connect are made with the Garmin Connect course builder (or whatever the https://connect.garmin.com/modern/courses site is formally called)

The specific courses I am trying to sync for this weekend are:
    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/10946922
    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/10946933
    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/10946944

So I guess my new question is, how can I get these courses into my ..\Sync\Download\FIT_TYPE_6 folder?
  • UPDATE: Just tried to sync the courses on my laptop and it worked flawlessly. This is weird since I have uninstalled Express, deleted the Program Data\Garmin\ folder, and reinstalled express on my desktop (the computer that is having the problems).

Are there any other tricks I may be able to try to fix the course sync issue on my desktop? It would be very handy to be able to sync courses from it since it is my primary computer. If not, at least I know that I'll be able to use my laptop to sync courses in the future.

I am glad to hear you at least found a way to get it working. If you deleted the entire ProgramData\Garmin folder, there really shouldn't be anything left of Express that would cause an issue. From what you described, it sounded like a master reset would have been required but if it is working on another computer, there can't be a problem with the watch.

I think that if you would really like to get it working on the original computer, it would be best to contact Product Support by phone as it sounds like you have already covered everything that I would recommend over the forums.

  • I have the same error and the same problem

Same problem here. Can't send a course to my 310XT. Deleted the Garmin folder and reset my Garmin and the same thing happens. Every once in a while I see the file being created in the C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Devices\3886359138\Sync\Download\FIT_TYPE_6 folder, but it's deleted very quickly. I've yet to be able to send a course to my 310XT, and I've had 2 since they were first released. I never had a problem with my 305, but back then there was dedicated software that connected directly to the watch and it worked flawlessly. Ever since Garmin went web, it's been total crap.

Please actually try it yourself, you'll see that it simply doesn't work. It's impossible to send a course to a 310XT no matter what I do.

An update to Garmin Express was just released that addresses an issue with sending some Courses to the 310XT. Please make sure there is only one Course in the Sync que inside Garmin Connect. The Sync icon is the two arrows on the left hand side. Delete the 3 Course currently in there then send one Course at a time after you have updated Garmin Express.
