Issue with Garmin Express install

Former Member
Former Member
Hi,

I tried to update files on my Nuvï and was told that a new version of Garmin Express, 4.1.8.0, is available. I clicked the OK button, but the installation stopped and the following message appeared: The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is not available. Click OK to Try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'ExpressInstaller.msi' in the box below.

And in the box below, I read: C:\ProgramDate\Package Cache\{2D202D2F-C6...

I can't find either, ExpressInstaller and the {2D202D2F-C6... file.

Then the installation stops. I've done this half a dozen times with the same result each time. Even after downloading and running the GarminExpressInstaller.exe program.

Thanks for your help.

The original version of Garmin Express will need to be uninstalled completely and then the 4.1.8.0 version should install correctly. To completely remove Garmin Express, I recommend using Microsoft's Fixit Utility. For Windows 8 and earlier, you can locate the link and components to uninstall in this FAQ:

What should I do if the computer cannot find the .msi file when updating a Garmin Software Application?

For Windows 10, the process is slightly different but the components are the same:

    1. Go to https://support2.microsoft.com/fixit/en-us
    2. Click All problem areas in Step 2
    3. Type Uninstall in the Filter Solutions box
    4. Click Run Now next to Fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled
    5. Follow the on-screen prompts.

Reboot the computer and then try the install again. If you receive the same error, there are probably still some registry keys for the old version of Garmin Express that need to be cleared out and I recommend contacting Product Support by phone for assistance with this.

    Hi Lisa,

Did what you suggested but the problem persists.

A phone call is then required.
