All handheld devices use routes, it's just the newer nuvis use something called trips. Earlier trip planner apps caused issues but the later app, on nuvis from 2013 models onwards, work pretty much like the older style routes. I have a nuvi with the updated trip planner and find it even better than routes, particularly as it honours shaping points sent by Basecamp, something that the older style trip planner and indeed route planner before it did not do.

Confusingly though the Basecamp trip planner app is not the same as the nuvi trip planner app. Like others I don't use the BC trip planner and just send routes from Basecamp to my nuvi.
