Basecamp Windows Base Camp maps?

My apologies if I have missed something. Can I load detailed maps on Basecamp that is running on windows laptop?
Recently made the switch from map source to basecamp. When I open Basecamp all I have is a generic map without any detail or search capabilities. (Search works to find imported waypoints) When my GPS is plugged in all is fine. But it reverts to generic map when GPS is unplugged. Import?

Are you saying that there are map viewable in Mapsource on the computer?

If so, they should be viewable in Basecamp as well. Go to the Maps tab in the menus to see what maps are there and click on the one you want to see.

If there are no maps on the computer, you will need to download or purchase and install them.

yes, the map is not on my computer. How do I get it loaded on my computer so that I can use basecamp without my GPS plugged in? Real perplexed here with the new software. :-(

What is the specific map? What model GPS? It depends on the source of the map on if it can be put on the computer.

Okay. You have lifetime maps, which is good...

Install and open Garmin Express. http://software.garmin.com/en-US/express.html

Connect the GPS to the computer. Click on the GPS icon for your GPS. There will be an option to install new maps or reinstall maps. In the install options for the map, you can choose to install to the device or to the computer or both. if you just want the current version on the computer, choose computer only.

There is a new version of CNNA out, so you can get that at the same time if you want.

Thank you very much. It is forcing me to update the map first (est 3hr), so I will do that tonight. Then see if I can load map on computer.

Is this listed in help anywhere? Seems pretty obvious now but as I had never used express I didn't know I needed it. Used to load maps from map source and any new GPS I have purchased was preloaded.
