Replacing Garmin Waypoints from BaseCamp

There are many times that I need to correct a Waypoint in a Route which in contained in BaseCamp and my GSMAP 64s. Obviously editing a point in BaseCamp is a ton easier than the GSMAP. When I 'send' to my GSMAP .. it always makes a copy which means I have to go in and delete the old waypoint manually (a pretty big inconvenience).

Is there a way I can replace the points from BaseCamp to my GSMAP instead of creating new points when their are duplicates?

Yes. Delete the relevant route/waypoint prior to sending the new ones.

:( Wow, I was surely hoping for an easier way! I might have 20 to 30 waypoints in any route .. and I'm constantly moving them about.

I'm almost thinking to delete all the waypoints for a route .. then send all of the waypoints for that route to my Garmin.

Sussamb, since you're the moderator, should I assume this is the best answer I'll get?

No, I wouldn't assume that ... I'm just another user like yourself. But really it's no big deal, I'm constantly deleting data off my handhelds.

If amending a route I'd certainly delete the whole route then send the new one, plus any associated waypoints. You realise you can block delete?

Yup, that's my SOP. After planning a trip in BC, I delete EVERYTHING from the device before connecting it, make sure that EVERYTHING I'll need for the new trip is in the BC list for that trip, then send that entire list. That assures everything is exactly what I have in BC and the way I expect it, no surprises.

Just like in Windows you can multi-select data in the bottom left hand pane, either by using Ctrl + left click to select a number of individual items, or by selecting one piece of data then Shift + left click on another, which selects all data in-between in the list.

Having done so you then hit delete and it's all gone at once.

My device is a nuvi 3590 so perhaps my case is different, but for me the easiest way to deal with changes/duplicates issues is to keep in the PC a copy of all basic nuvi data. Whenever I have to send a big trip to the nuvi I delete ALL (except maps) from the nuvi and then resend the base plus the new trip. It seems excessive but in my experience is the easiest/fastest way. In my case it takes seconds to wipe the nuvi clean and reload everything plus the new stuff.

In a nuvi you have no option as Basecamp cannot delete data on the nuvi, the difference is that it can with handhelds.

A tad drastic .. but something to think about. I need to ensure my BaseCamp is backed up.

I mean all the data that I add to the nuvi after a clean reset, like waypoints, custom POIs, saved places, routes and trips, etc. I don't mean maps or anything else that Garmin creates and/or preloads; that stuff I don't touch. And yes, all of it after a backup of the 'clean' nuvi.
