Basecamp can't see Nuvi. Again.

I connected my Nuvi and fired up Basecamp. The window of devices just has the word 'device' and nothing else shows up.

So I restart my PC - and try plugging the device in first, then starting BC. And then the reverse. No luck.

So I update the device. Then BC. Still no joy.

Irony of irony - the UPDATER can see my device just fine, garminExpress can see it too! It's just that BC can't.

I thought this old chestnut had been resolved but it seems 3+ years on a reliable USB connection still baffles Garmin techies. Every MP3 player, phone, tablet - in fact every other device I own, or have ever owned, connects via USB cable to its respective software without a hitch.

And yet out of every 5? connections with my garmin device, I get to waste 2 hours trying to figure out what the latest problem is, without even an error message to tell me where to start looking.

So I can't say any more except that explorer DOES show the device. So my current issue does not seem to be related to the PC, OS, USB version, dirty contacts, 'wrong' USB cable, or any other 'juju' I see on the numerous previous threads on this topic.

Is there anyone out there who has a fix for this?
