If I connect my Garmin to my computer and go into Basecamp I can zoom in on an area, go to Find, then options, select POI's then Custom POI's under that, hit search and it will list all the points from all of my Custom POI files on the screen. PERFECT-just what I was expecting to see-the problem is when I don't have the Garmin connected to the computer my Custom POI's no longer appear when I do a search?? What I DON'T want is to import all my Custom POI files into BaseCamp and have them show up on the map ALL the time. When you normally open the map it doesn't have every hotel, gas station, restaurant etc. showing up as way points, why do my custom POI's have to when they don't have to when my Garmin is connect. I want them to be in BaseCamp but only show up when I search for them just like any other search?? Anyone?????
In Windows you can select which Custom POIs are used, under Maps, Manage Custom POIs. Not sure if that option exists in the Mac version though?
My fault-this should be under windows NOT MAC, don't know how to move it though??
Yes under maps, manage custom poi's you can select and uncheck them but that doesn't make them appear during a search when your Garmin is not connected to your computer-to be honest with you I'm not sure what effect it actually has on the "custom" poi's which again are NOT imported when you tell it to download your Garmin information to Basecamp, it only downloads your "favorites" not your custom poi's. To get your custom POI's into BaseCamp you have to actually import the GPX file which then makes them show up all the time on the map which is what I DON'T want, I again only want to see them when I search using the custom poi filter. Can't understand why the software would see them when your Garmin is connect and then not let you bring them into BaseCamp to use when your Garmin is not connected, VERY frustrating!!! :(
I have a usb stick permanently connected to a rear port on my PC, and place any custom POIs there so I can choose whether to select them or not any time Basecamp is running without having to import them or connect my nuvi. You could try that.
(BTW I've moved this thread to the PC forum as you're not on a Mac)
