Export track only, without waypoints, in KML File

Hi All,

First of all, I'm a newbie to GPS tracking devices, and for the past few days I've been browsing and experimenting to see how I can get the most out of my new Fenix 3 watch. I used it last weekend on a mountaineering trip, and now I want to upload the track into an external map (Swiss Topo in my case). This requires the track to be uploaded in KML format. So, I select my track in Basecamp, save it to my disk as KML file, and the upload it in SwissTopo. Works fine, but in SwissTopo it shows all the WayPoints in big circles, making it a very thick black track rather than showing a nice thin line of the track. Now, is this something I need to resolve in BaseCamp (in which case I hope someone here can help me) or is this a SwissTopo issue (in which case I assume this Forum can't help me).

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Tracks are merely a whole series of waypoints, although they are called track points when in a track. You cannot have a track without them.
However, every program or external map treats them differently. Some programs allow you to show the track line while hiding the points, some do not.

I'm not familiar with SwissTopo, so I do not know if you can modify the track display in it. BC exports tracks in one specific format for either gpx or kml files, so there is nothing you can do there.

Perhaps you could try a gpx to kml converter instead and see if that works, like: http://gpx2kml.com/

Another possibility that could (maybe, I don't know) work is to first open the kml in Google Earth. Normally, BaseCamp creates KML files that contain waypoints and tracks separately. If that is your case, delete the waypoints and resave the KML, with just the track.

OK, great, the d-tour by converting the KML file vie the external converter worked! I also tried uploading the Basecamp generated KML file into Google earth, and there as well it only shows a bunch of way-points instead of a smooth line (track).

Guess I'll have to make do with the work around! Txs for the help!
