problem uploading gpx routes to basecamp

Did you download them from http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk ? The GPX files from that site are invalid; that's why BaseCamp won't read them.

I did try to get gpx files from www.walkhighlands.co.uk. i am sure i have used them from the site before and was ok. i was just making sure that's why i have asked the question on this forum as i was not sure if it was something wrong with my pc or the basecamps software. what site or software would be best to download the gpx files

For creating routes I use http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php

If you're creating hiking routes just ensure you untick the 'Follow roads' box

What do you mean by invalid? I have just purchased a GPS and started using Basecamp, and have downloaded a number of walks from the walkhighlands site - uploaded into basecamp checked the routes and are now sitting happily on my Oregon 650. I am concerned that these now may not be accurate for my planned holiday.

The designation "invalid" is from a technical point of view. The gpx files that I downloaded did contain incorrect elements that prevented BaseCamp from loading them.
Being accurate or not is a completely different aspect; I cannot tell you how accurate they are, but I must say that the ones I saw weren't very detailed though.

The fact that you didn't encounter problems with the files you downloaded means that either they fixed the problem, or that just a portion of the files is invalid.

I have a issue regarding uploading some routes from walking highlands on to basecamp so i can transfer to my gps device i have tried various routes from the site but still giving me the same error message, so don't know if its my pc that is causing the problem or if there is something wrong with the file the i downloaded from the site.

There might be an easy fix. But without a link to the route with the problem, it's hard to do much.

Some (at least) of them work.

Two weeks ago I picked a random one, and the gpx file was certainly invalid. Today I can't find an invalid one anymore, so I have been "lucky" two weeks ago, or they have fixed it in the mean time.
In gpx files the order of the elements is extremely important; you can't just shuffle them around. In my memory the via points of the route in that particular gpx file did contain a time stamp that came before the elevation.
The proper order is elevation, time stamp. (it doesn't make sense though to add either of them to via points, since this information won't be used anyway; at least not by MapSource, BaseCamp or Garmin devices)

What did you try?...

"Sgurr Thuilm and Sgurr nan Coireachan" but they must have fixed something because I just tried again with the very same file and it worked like a charm. The other day it didn't.

Anyhow, it's ok now and that is what matters.
