Converting loop tracks to routes

I have a Nuvi 2555 and have downloaded both .gdb and .gpx files for a motorcycle route that I would like to use in my trip planner.
The routes have approx 400 points, and are well shaped. I converted the track to a route, however I cannot figure out how to have the Basecamp program to recognize the points. I have unchecked the fastest and shorted routes in futile attempts to have the tracks converted to the route that can be uploaded to my Nuvi. The start and finish points for the 32 mile loop (blacktop roads) are 175 ft apart (I know this because the Basecamp route only computes that 175 ft route). I have tried other downloads and the track to route conversion only provides the most direct route from the start and finish waypoints.
I have tried to manually input waypoints to get the general shape of the loop, but I am not sure if it will provide the proper amount of detail that I would like for the route.

Is there a setting that I need to verify, or a different way to have the track points recognized?

Are you using the latest version of BC?

I just did two separate tests:

    1. Imported a closed loop track (gpx) from the nuvi.
    2. Created an almost closed loop with BaseCamp's track tool.

In both cases the track converted to a route that followed all turns without error.
  • Depending on which version you are using of BC you may need to switch the activity profile to Direct prior to the track to route conversion. Note in any case your nuvi is limited to the number of via points it can have in a route/trip, so if in doing this you exceed that number it won't work anyway. For your nuvi I believe the limit is 30, although you can have many more 'shaping' or do not alert points.

Personally I wouldn't attempt this the way you are trying to. In Basecamp load the track. Now using the start and end points create a new route, and use sufficient viapoints and shaping points to make the route follow the track. Note the difference, viapoints are points that you must go through and will be announced (marked as Alert on arrival in Basecamp). Shaping points can be skipped and are not announced (marked as Do not alert in Basecamp).

Ensure in all of this you use the same map as on your nuvi and set the routing/avoidance settings in BC the same as your nuvi.

Now send the route/trip to your nuvi, disconnect from your PC and run the trip on your nuvi. Now reconnect to BC and check it again to see the route matches. Adjust if necessary.
