How estimate intermim mileage from start along planned route?

I have a motorcycle route designed and I want to place gas stations on the route at intervals of about 200 miles so the Garmin GPS announces them.

I was able to move the hand of the route once, and see the cumulative mileage from the start. But have not been able to repeat.

How can I consistently measure cumulative miles from the start over a planned route?
THanks in advance

Right-Click the route -> Open -> Properties Tab -> Click "More Info" checkbox at the bottom.
  • Thanks. But Thats not what Im looking for.

I want to add NEW waypoints along an existing route at about 200 mile intervals. These will be gas stations that I can find near that waypoint.

In that case I would look at the tab "Route Directions", select a point at the distance required (~200) and do a "Find Nearest Fuel" near that point, select and create a waypoint for the gas station and then move on to the next (~400) and repeat.
  • Thre is no straightforward way to do this in BaseCamp. But, if you do either of the two things tranquilo2 mentioned you can possibly find a point along your route that is approximately the distance you want. I do this for long rides. I select the closest point before the desired distance and then use the measure tool to get to the distance I want. Center the map there and then search for fuel.

In Trip Planner there is a slider that lets you move along the route and indicate the distance & time - but I don't like using Trip Planner at all. Now if the developers could add that slider function to BaseCamp it would be a huge help for motorcyclists.

Yep, but not just motorcyclists, it'd be a huge help to us all.

But, failing that, the developers have a much easier way to give us something similar... simply make a feature already present work reliably and logically: right now, if you hover the mouse pointer over a route you get -sometimes- a very informative popup hint with the info required, including total distance from start. Simple, easy, welcome... except that the hint appears only if the route is not over a road. :( How silly can that be?

The way it should work: when a route is selected (and only then) BC should activate the hint in preference to anything else that's on that point. It is extremely silly for the hint to tell me "Hwy 14" and not tell me the data of the route that's right there on Hwy 14, and that's because the software picks up the road name in preference to a route that's right there in front of its nose.

Were are popups when you really want them? :)
