On-map balloons and popups

Hello, as I didn't get answers in this channel at all (I understand, this is more than a feedback-channel for the new version), I just have to post my question here...

- Will there be an option, to turn off on-map popups and info-balloons anytime in future versions?

Please, can an admin, or a developer answer this question?

All best,
Maiskolben

PS: For interested people, there is an option to turn off the popups since version 4.5.0!

We have a plan now to release a configurable option to turn off the Balloons in our next version. I am not sure of that versions release date, but I want to thank everyone for their continued patience. I will keep everyone posted and as always we do publish our release notes.

Thank you for taking this serious! :) We'll see us for giving feedback after the next release..

PS: but please don't forget to stay on the line with this issue. Regarding the abovementioned ideas to the general onmap-information behavior...

In other words, make it similar to the "map products" toolbar box. Even if the user decided to select and show it for occasional use, the info need not be looked at unless needed, and would not be in the way of anything.
  • I have found a really simple and effective method to avoid the obnoxious pop-up and banners splashed over a route when digitizing it in Basecamp...and I don't have to wait an inordinate time for a new version of Basecamp to fix it (if it does)........I used Mapsource. I still have one of the older versions on the PC and it utilizes the latest version of maps on the PC. No more "route covering pop-ups" !!

What would you like to see happen? What information is/is not important to you?

Adding a delay, or just turning off the feature is only a temporary band-aid.

How about a drop down(expanding) menu in the status bar with this info, OR, better yet, just like so many Garmin GPSr, just give us a pop-up Info Box that can be moved at will anywhere on the screen, with minimize (collapse)/expand/close buttons included. This info-box should remain where we place it, and remain open/closed as we have selected, and always update live with information for the currently selected map feature. We should also be able to select/copy/paste any of that information for use as desired, and hot links should access directly new windows where added function is available for each data item. When open, it will show all available data, when collapsed just a single line title (like a menu item), and when minimized it should be available from a info-box icon in the status bar or in a menu bar (a show/hide button).

Super neat, super clean, just like it should be.

    Hey Folks,

    @Atlas, youre right!

Is there a date for the next version already? Maybe there could be a nightly build or something for those who cannot awaiting it? :)

    with all love and hope,

Yes. I'm generally an early adopter for new tech but in this case - managing maps, waypoints, tracks, and routes, and doing trip planning - Mapsource is still my go-to tool. If Mapsource will do it I continue to use it because it typically does it at least as well. And almost always faster and cleaner!

There are some things Basecamp does that Mapsource doesn't. So I use both. But I'm still baffled why Garmin chose to toss out the baby with the bathwater. Mapsource already has all the basics nailed, including the display -- clean and responsive. I still don't understand why they felt compelled to throw that all out.

But what perplexes me even more is why they can't rob some of the Mapsource logic to fix some things like, oh, postal code search and other basic stuff that works fine in Mapsource but they still can't seem to figure out how to do in Basecamp.

    ...ken...

Second that :) but there's an indication postcode search might be resolved in 4.4.8

So guys, what do you think about the new implemented (since 4.5.0.) option to turn off those tooltips? Lets sending them (the developers) some motivation to drive another nail down on this (hopefully spelled correctly?) and a big thanks for keeping you promise! Thank you! :) Hope to see anytime in the future a complete redesign of the onmap information management (in the ways we just mentioned here in this thread for example), but for now, I will work and plan with basecamp MUCH, much more relaxing, gentle on the nerves and comfortable.

    Thanks, Maiskolben
