Im a complete numpty when it comes to things like this, so any help is greatly appreciated. Its probably already been covered but ive spent over 4 hours trying to find out the answer now :(

I have a Fenix 2 which i love. When i run an Ultra etc the GPX file of the course is already made for me by the organisers and i upload it and away i go. However i want to get into making my own GPX files. Obviously basecamp is the way to go....'i think'. Instead of buying the map which is silly money from Garmin is it worth buying a cheap DVD off ebay and installing that into basecamp.

I dont mind if the map is 5 years old. I'm just looking for something pretty reliable. Ive looked at http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ but its a nightmare waiting for the download and it isnt much good to be honest.

Any thoughts or help in which course of action i should take please
