  • BMW Nav V Issues With Win-BaseCamp

I am several issues with my (new to me) BMW Nav V and BaseCamp 4.4.7 (Windows version running under Windows 8.1). I am curious to know if anyone else is seeing these issues, or to know if the developers have any insights into the issues.

    Issue 1:

BaseCamp does not seem to be properly recognizing the Nav V. Sometimes, BaseCamp will stop responding and freeze, forcing me to close the program. Upon restarting BaseCamp, I am forced to disconnect the Nav V, close and restart BaseCamp again, and then reconnect the Nav V in order for it to be recognized again.

    Issue 2:

The Nav V (and the micro-SD card I have loaded into the Nav V) will display in the Collections pane. However, when I try to send something (a waypoint or route, for example) to the device using the Device | Send to Device menu, no device can be found by the program. This also results in BaseCamp freezing, forcing me to restart the program and disconnect the Nav V for it to be recognized again. I am able to click-and-drag items to the Nav V entry in the Collections pane for transferring items; however, I never see an animation to indicate the item has been transferred to the device.

    Issue 3:

Selecting the Nav V or it's SD card in the Collections pane does not result in showing anything (waypoints, routes, or tracks) on the device.

Do you have added the popups for work to be done, too?

This issue is annoying people several years from now on. I don't get it, why you didn't response to this at all, I just awaited this option in the latest release, like many many other users do, and I was so frustrated there isn't such an option.. Seems very hard to implement a simple function to set OFF the "onmap"-popups, isn't it? What's up? Do you think this cannot be so bad as some users think it is, or is there A REASON why you don't response to this?

    SUSSAMB says:
Afraid not. However it's been raised on the Garmin forums where I'm a moderator and a fix is planned for the next major release.
    in 2013!

When searching in Trip Planner if the edit box is at the bottom of the screen the search dropdown opens beyond the screen area, becoming partially hidden and making selection hard. May I suggest that, like with most software, if there's not enough room for a dropdown to open fully below the edit box the dropdown then opens above it.

Please see the screen capture attached showing the problem:

    TIA

Thank you for this. I will open a case.

    Backup Problem

After installing new update V4.4.7 , Backup function is not working. Message I get is: An exception occurred during the backup process. Prior to this backup worked flawlessly. My backup files are 6.6 Gb. due to ByrdsEye images. Message appears instantly after I click on Save. I have 6 backup files in my backup folder from previous saves. I use Win.7

Are you trying to back up? Or restore from a back up? Just want to make sure I'm clear.

Adding a new List to a Trip

When adding a new list to a trip (please see snapshot 1) BC inserts the list in a nonsensical position (please see snapshot 2) relative to the trip hubs, which are in neat date order.

IMO the new list should go at the very end of the trip, after the hubs. This, by the way, is the way BC handles the addition of a folder: it goes at the end, as it should, so one would expect the same logic to apply to the addition of a list. Now, if the list could be moved after being inserted the problem would be trivial, but apparently there's no way to do that, so it stays in that weird position.

    TIA
  • I just noticed something strange after updating to 4.4.7.: Some routes begin to shoe the default names for the shaping point on the map and I can't find a way to turn them off again. The procedure that seems to do it is: Create a route by points - Create a track out of the route - Export the track - Get elevation to the track in GPS visualizer (have not checked whether this is necessary for the effect) - Import the new route back to BaseCamp. It MAY require that the importing is to the same list where the route is, but I'm not yet sure of that.

Is this something in 4.4.7 or have I just missed this before?

    Unnecessary and unwanted route recalculation

If I select a waypoint, then righ click Open, and then select a coordinate (lat or lon) to copy its value to the clipboard (just copy, not editing or changing the value in any way) all routes that contain that waypoint are recalculated. Why?

Shouldn't that recalc happen only when a coordinate has changed?
