Thank you all in advance for any feedback you may have.
  • Well there may be others but equally for most of us Basecamp works. I suspect you have either a PC and/or database issue if you're having the sorts of issues you describe.

Perhaps you could be more specific. What do you mean by 'taking ages'? What OS are you using? How large is your database? When do you get the 'not responding' message and what clears it, if anything?

Even with the route line at the thinnest setting it still blocks highway numbers from being visible. The highway markers should not be UNDER the line but above (or alongside) it.

I see what you mean. Yes, I agree, the line should be on the background, just as the Nuvi shows it. Looking at the Nuvi and BC side by side shows how much better it is if the line is drawn right on the map, behind everything else.

As the moderator has repeated much the same comments as he made in the earlier thread concerning this release, so do I.

In response to DaveA who enquired: "Almost four months work and that's all that was changed or fixed?"

    I responded:-

My sentiments exactly, particularly with regard to the UK address search that the moderator refers to. As he says, this defect has been raised repeatedly since BC was introduced and although we regularly see on this forum that a 'case' has been opened on other issues, there is no information, no feedback and most importantly, no action on this issue.

If the moderator cannot produce any action or information I have little hope of a response but I ask again publicly: Could we have an authoritative statement from Garmin as to when we might expect this issue to be fixed?

As this issue is now raised by the moderator and seconded by me in a 'formal' release thread started by JM47048, may I invite him to respond with a clear statement about when (i.e. with particularity, not "... sometime, hopefully soon ...") we may expect UK address search to work properly?

Thus far the inaction and deathly hush speaks volumes.

I cannot speak to exactly when things will get released. The schedules change. However, we have added this case for work to be done hopefully in the 4.5 release which we are beginning work on.

Just installed 4.4.7, guess what, still taking ages to boot up, not responding message (as usual). am I the only person who thinks Basecamp is utter tosh and want to go back to the older software that wasn't broken so didn't need fixing.

Another reason I don't bother with BC, even with 0 data in the data base it takes for ever on my win 7 64 bit machine. 4 times longer then Mapsource which is the better program for routing.
  • Really? Ages to do 'what' exactly?

I have used Basecamp for years now, although I occasionally open MS ... and while there is a slight delay for BC to start (due to my large database) we're talking 5 seconds so am unsure what is taking 'ages' for you

(also running Win 7 64 bit)

...even with 0 data in the data base it takes for ever on my win 7 64 bit machine...

I have the same setup on a four year old Dell notebook. For me, with a 10MB data file, 5000+ Waypoints and 200+ Routes (some of them huge) BC 4.4.7 takes around 4 seconds to load fully.
  • On my laptop with Win 7 64 bit I see times like SUSSAMB and tanquilo2. On my desktop with Win 8 it takes closer to 2 seconds.

    Thank you.

Whilst, given the number of occasions on which, and by whom, the issue has been raised, I am surprised that it has only now been added to your list of work to be done, I look forward to the 4.5 release. When is it due?

Perhaps, given his interest, the moderator will be able to keep a closer eye on progress than us mere mortals are able to?

Do you have added the popups for work to be done, too? I understand when it would takes too long to manage the information out of the popups are shown in a sidebar, or something, but to implement an option to set off the little pops wouldn't be hard to realize, would it? What do you say?

lol well we are all mere mortals. But I'm afraid the 4.5 release do not yet have a date. I promise to keep all posted as soon as I know anything. Please keep in mind that "hopefully" is the key word. We always have a lot of shifting priorities. I am trying to see about getting the fix for this scheduled. Thanks always for everyone's patience! :)
