Google Earth not found by BaseCamp

I have Google Earth Pro installed on my Win7 computer, but Basecamp thinks it's NOT installed. How can I fix? thanks
  • I believe you first need to install GE. Once BC works with that I understand you can then replace GE with GE Pro and it will work. Note I've not tried this. It's based on what I've read.

I experienced the same issue after updating Google Earth (non-pro) to the latest version. After restoring to an older version of Google Earth, Basecamp then found the Google Earth installation. In my case, I found the older version of GE in a Windows\Installer file.

    Good luck!

Good it worked for you, but I'm wondering what new version of GE you updated to. AFAIK the current one is v7.1.2.2041 released July 2013.

Also, in case it helps others, all versions of GE, new and old, can be downloaded direct from Google here

I had updated to 7.1.4.1529, released March 30, 2015. This version worked fine except that Basecamp and Mapsource couldn't find it.

    Restoration to 7.1.2.2041 fixed it.

Well we now know what the problem is, but who is going to fix this Google or Basecamp???

Has Garmin Basecamp or Google been notified about this error? Does Basecamp read these lists??

  • Basecamp developer is frequently here if you look at the other threads in this forum.
  • I have opened a case for this. Thank you for the feedback. We will get to the bottom of what is going on.

I have BaseCamp installed on my desktop and laptop computers. The desktop is running version 4.4.7 and the laptop is running 4.4.6. In addition, Google Earth version 7.1.5.1557 is installed on both computers. The desktop version of Basecamp (4.4.7) will not call up GE, but the laptop version (4.4.6) will. The bad behavior of the desktop is recent. Also, I have MapSource version 6.16.3 installed on both computers. Neither version of MapSource will now call up GE. Again, this is a recent change in behavior. I'm not sure if something changed because of an update to GE or to BaseCamp/MapSource, but they are no longer playing well together. Please Advise
  • Yet I'm running BC v4.4.7 and it and Mapsource work perfectly with GE .... which is v7.0.3.8542, so it looks like an issue with later versions of GE
