I'm new to Basecamp + routing. I laid out a motorcycle route starting + stopping at the same location (HD dealer) with 2 waypoints along the route. I sent it to my Nuvi 55 + it downloaded correctly. When I pre-rode the route, it varied from what I entered. When I put the GPS on the bike + load the route, what should I use as the "destination"? Do I enter the first waypoint, and if so, do I have to reset anything after reaching that point? I entered the first waypoint today + everything worked great up to that point. Thereafter, it recalulated everything. I'm sure it's something I did wrong, just not sure how to enter it correctly. TIA for your help!
I would guess that you did not place the first waypoint accurately on the road and therefore the device did not perceive that you ever passed over it within design tolerances.
If you want to create a route that starts at one location (call it "Dealer"), goes to another location (call it "Target"), and then returns to the first location (call it "Dealer"), you must put the "Dealer" waypoint into the route twice and then add the "Target" waypoint and move it to in between the two "Dealer" waypoints. Then do a "recalculation" on the combination.
OK, I did all that correctly. After downloading the route to the GPS, I selected the route + hit "go". Another screen popped up saying "select next destination". On that screen was my start point, 1st stop, 2nd stop, and back to start point. When I tested the route, I entered the first stop as my destination. It worked perfectly until I went beyond that stop, that's when it began re-calculating the route instead of following the download. Should I have stopped + entered the next stop at that point? Or, should I have just entered the final destination (also the start point) to begin with?
It should automatically switch to the next part of the route. The fact it's recalculating at this point makes me wonder whether the map you're planning the route on is the same as the one on your nuvi? Mine doesn't recalculate, it just accepts the route I've loaded but then I ensure I plan on the same map that is on my nuvi.
I had a lot of trouble with unit when first purchased + the Garmin tech had me install the map off the gps onto my hard drive. The map on the gps is CN North America NT 2015.30 Lower 49. When I click the "map" button on Basecamp, it lists this map twice. The first one says NT 2015.30 "installed" in parenthesis and the second says NT 2015.30 "nuvi 55" in parenthesis. I assume both versions are identical.
I wouldn't assume anything. If you nuvi is recalculating the only reason I can think for it doing that is that it's using a different map. Added to that I've never seen a CN map listed in Basecamp say anything other than the map, eg CN NA 2015.30, certainly nothing in parenthesis like you say and that may be tied in with the earlier problems you had.
Your device looks at the name rather than the detail of the map, so if it has a map named differently on it to Basecamp you will get issues.
To verify this try connecting your nuvi to Basecamp and plan the route having selected in Basecamp the map on the device itself. Now run the route and see what happens.
Note the current map is 2015.40. It may be worth using Express to install this map to both Basecamp and your nuvi if the above solves the issue so that you know you have identical maps for the future.
Sorry, I took pics of what I'm seein but they exceed the limits of the site. I'll figure another way to get then posted. Don't know what happened to my typed explanation.
