Which waypoint symbol shall i chose?

Hi

I have the need for indicating a special waypoint that is shown on a series of Garmin GPS's as different from all other waypoints.
I have tried a number of different waypoint symbols in basecamp, but i either just get the associated text displayed (e.g. in a Zumo 220) or a standard waypoint symbol (green/white heart without the associated text in Zumo 390). GPS's are Zumo 220, 550, 390, 660 (and others probably).

Isn't that possible?

  • Unfortunately there is no standard set of waypoint symbols. Trying to identify one that will show on multiple GPS is really trial and error unless you can install a custom symbol, and that is effectively limited to On the trail devices.

On a ZUMO you are pretty much limited to what is on the device. In past iterations of BaseCamp, IIRC, none of the symbols selected in BaseCamp survived the transfer to the ZUMO; you would have to go through them one by one on the device and change the symbols. Now there may be one or two of the more common symbols which will transferas the normal ZUMO symbol for that class.

You can, however, use your own symbols for POIs. depending on your needs this could be a work-around.
