Viewing map of state not currently located in?

Create a "waypoint" in the state of Utah...anything. When you select the WP in WP Manager, one of the options is then have the GPS show it on the map...Utah in this case. From there, you can scroll around. (I can do that on the GPSMAP 62s and 64s).

Try this: Go to Satellite Page-> Menu->Use with GPS off. Then Menu->Set Position. Zoom out, move the cursor around to somewhere in Utah, zoom in to get it where you want it, then click Use.
The unit will use that place as its position until you turn it off. You can zoom, pan, place waypoints just like in normal use.

(the menu options on the 64 may be named differently, but Garmins have had this capability for a long time, so it should work.)

One thing I recently figured out is that the free state topos on GPSFiledepot sometimes overlap a neighboring state slightly. If both state maps are enabled the GPS will show nothing but the basemap in that area. Normally, though, you can have all the state topos enabled at once.

Or if you simply want to see the map zoom out, scroll across and zoom in.

When I do that (scroll from MT to UT), if I access any menu items, then press enter on the map icon to exit the menu, the map goes back to MT... anyway to get it back to map screen previously displayed (UT) before getting into the menu? May be getting off forum topic on this.
