Just got my Nuvi 57. Express sees it. Base camp sees it, but I cannot access the "detailed maps" on the device. Program keeps asking me to connect the device. It shows up in the left hand column.
Anyone?
In the meantime as a workaround copy the map files to a sd card or usb stick and Basecamp should read the maps off that, they will need to be in a folder named Garmin on the card/stick. If you have lifetime maps then carry out an update to your nuvi (if a map update is available) and select the option to download maps to your PC for Basecamp to use.
Well I've used Basecamp for years and find it far easier now than MapSource. It can also do far more. If MapSource does what you want though then no need to change.
This has to be the most user unfriendly product I have ever tried to use. Not only does my device not show up in Base Camp, I can't unlock the maps even after downloading them. Seriously, folks! Frustrated is putting it mildly! How can anything be so difficult? I appreciate your comments and suggestions, but I need base camp to recognize my device! Maybe I made a mistake in getting this model?
Please! Don't be confused. I have enough for both of us. The device will show up in the "library" menu until it goes to sleep. I cannot access the device. when I go to unlock maps in Base camp, BC can't find the device. The only map I have in BC is basic map with only major roads indicated. Webupdater can't find the device. Garmin Express sees it and indicates a "green" connected light. I cannot unlock the maps in Base camp. The search menu will not let me enter the ID of the device. I can enter the serial number but that's it. I have tried several times and with different data cables. May I provide any other info?
What is going to sleep? Your device shouldn't go into sleep mode when attached to your PC. What do you mean by the 'library' menu?
If WebUpdater also can't find the device then you have a connection issue somewhere, whether this is connected with other problems that folks have had with the latest 2 digit nuvis I don't know. JM47048, a Basecamp developer, is looking into these issues as I posted. You may have to wait for him to respond. In the meantime look at this FAQ to see if it helps (I suspect it won't in your case):
The unit seems to "dim" down after some time. I call that going to sleep. This just in. . . .The unlock maps found the device. It however gives a different ID # than what the system says I have. and it says that I have the wrong combination of ID and serial #. Is there no end to this folly? When I go to "my garmin and look up device it gives me an ID # That ID number is not what comes up when the computer finds the device! I cannot manually enter the ID #. I yeild the balance of my rant time to SUSSAM. Thanks again!
