Need help creating route - or I'm returning my Garmin!

Hi,
Frustrated and ready to return Garmin if I can't figure this out.....help.

What I want to do is create a route on BaseCamp (or another map), and load it on my Garmin. It's much easier to have heads up verbal directions instead of trying to read directions, while driving, line by line. I didn't think it would be so difficult, but BaseCamp has me pulling my hair out.

Like so many other maps, I want to be able to put in my starting point (address in Florida) and my ending point (address in N.C.). Typically when I enter this info into Google Maps or MapQuest, it directs me into a direction I don't want to go (ie. like heading directly into Atlanta!). I have another way I prefer, so I would need to make adjustments to the original directions/map. That in itself can be frustrating, trying to get the blue line to move. Then, when I have the route exactly to my liking, I want to be able to load it on my Garmin Nuvi 2597 LMT for safe keeping.

This task, so far, seems to be impossible. If there is anyone who can guide me through this process I would be very grateful. Not sure how much more time I am willing to spend trying to figure this BaseCamp out. Not user friendly AT ALL!
  • Unfortunately no to either. On handhelds you can reverse a route but not on nuvis etc

We must be careful placing Stops and other route shaping points on one way streets, divided highways, and ramps if route reversal is anticipated. In general, reversing a route just is not practical, and on another forum I saw a thread in which Sussamb and others tried hard to explain that to an obstinate original poster over a period of weeks.

The Nuvi 56 does have a feature that re-orders the Trip Planner Stop sequence. Therefore, a two or three stop route can be reversed rather easily if the stops are placed on two-way roads and streets. However, a complicated route with many stops could be frustrating to re-sequence (reverse) and doing so with errors could destroy the original multi-point saved route.

Thanks for your replies. I'll plan the reverse route on Basecamp when necessary. Also discovered that I can change the waypoints I have inserted into a route on Basecamp into shaping points on my Garmin which is useful to know.
