Possibility to create mile markers on a route

I just created a route of 45 km in BaseCamp and I wanted to create a waypoint on each km of the route. So on exactly 1.0 km there should be a waypoint called "1.0", and after another 1.0 km there should be one called "2.0" etc. etc.

Is it possible to do this somehow automatically in BaseCamp?

Or is there an easy way to do this semi-automatic, like calculating intermediate route distances to find the points I need to make (manually)?
I noticed the "Total Distance" column at the properties page. But this isn't precise enough because there's only one digit behind the decimal marker, and I want the waypoints to be as exact as possible.

I already did some searching on google and the forum, but the things I found weren't really useful.

Any suggestions?

As far as I know, there is no automatic way to do this. I suppose you could drive/ride the route with the GPS set to record a track point every meter, then bring it back into BC and manually create a waypoint every Km.

The only way I was able to do this IN BC was to create a route, then zoom in to about 1Km and create a track to match the route ending it at slightly more than 1 Km (by guessing). Hold down the left button to make the maximum number of track points. Then open it and select the first point (start) and hold the shift key while highlighting a series of points. If you hold the shift key down you can select fewer or more points until the total equals 1km. The number will shift from meters to kilometers at exactly the 1000 meter distance. Now you have exactly 1 km of track highlighted on the map and you can make a waypoint at the end. Continue this process until all 45 waypoints are in place. I'm guessing this will give you an accuracy of about 2-3 meters for your waypoints. Of course the map may not be accurate enough and when you go back and log the track on the GPS unit it may not match up within 3 meters.

    What a PITA!!!!!
  • JaVaWa RTWtool can do this. Set the desired distance in the settings (there are separate settings for tracks and routes) and convert the route or track to waypoints (use the option "At fixed intervals")

He's a genius indeed, that will solve my 'issue', thanks for the help, will try it soon. In the meantime the same application solved another problem getting the right symbol image at my Garmin Navigation.

    great!

    nog Nederlands ook trouwens... :)
  • No. BaseCamp development has stopped so you won't see any new features.

  • What is the alternative software/platform from garmin?

Im planning trips in Basecamp - the fleksibilities in the software are great.

Combining waypoint (places to stay) with a route is great, but I don’t know other solutions for this….

  • I wrote a program that will give you mile markers.

    https://sites.google.com/view/grouteloader/bc2ge

    1. Check Metric.
    2. Uncheck Run Google Earth.
    3. Click on the "..."  (options).
    4. Click on a color.
    5. Add a positive number for the Period Major and click OK.
    6. Copy the track in BaseCamp and click on the color you selected earlier.
    7. Drag the Drag button to one of the colored squares on the lower left.
    8. You should see the mile-marker way points (this also makes a copy of the track, which you can delete).
