Need help/suggestions for animating waypoints

Hi Basecamp gurus, I'm hoping someone can give me some help with a project I want to complete using Basecamp.

I use a Garmin Oregon 650T to record the GPS location of artifacts from the Civil War. Bullets, cartridge casings, uniform buttons, artillery shell fragments, etc. All recovered artifacts are saved as waypoints and imported into Basecamp.

What I want to do is make an animation showing the plot over time. So, for example, show all of the artifacts as of January 2012. Then show a frame with the artifacts as of February, 2012, etc. until all of the waypoints are revealed over the backdrop of the topo map.

Doing this manually would be rather painful and time prohibitive. Thanks for any suggestions!

  • I can't think of anyway to do this automatically. What I'd do though is create lists based on the dates you want, so one named January 2012, one February 2012 etc. Enter the waypoints from January into January 2012, the ones from February into February 2012 etc.

Then (and here's the tricky part) send the locations from January 2012 into the list named February 2012, then the locations from February 2012 (which now include the points from January 2012) into March 2012 etc.

To show the build up you then click on January 2012, then February 2012 etc. You could of course use the Windows snipping tool to create jpegs of all of those screens, enter them into PowerPoint so you then have a slide show ... just depends exactly how you want to display this info :)

Got it, sounds like a workable solution although a tad more labor intensive than I'd hoped.

I actually have several lists showing different views into the same data now and it's enabled me to see some very interesting patterns in the distribution of relics on this site.

I'll give this a try and circle back with my results. Thanks very much for the response!
