deleting saved locations on Nuvi 2595 with BaseCamp

I was hoping to use BaseCamp to manage my saved locations on my Nuvi 2595 but there seems to be a limitation. I can use BaseCamp all day to add favorite locations, i.e. Work, Home and other locations that I use frequently and then upload them to the Nuvi. I can also download what's on the Nuvi without problem. The issue is if I have locations that I want to remove from the Nuvi I can't. I can remove them from "My Collection" on the PC but if I then upload that list to the Nuvi, all the locations I removed on the PC are still on the Nuvi.

Is this by design (or lack thereof) or am I doing something wrong?
  • It's the way nuvis are designed, so Basecamp can't delete saved locations. You can only do that through the menus on the nuvi.

Note also if you've sent locations to your nuvi you need to go to the GPX folder on your nuvi and delete the files sent there by Basecamp. If you don't simply deleting them through the nuvi menu won't be enough as they'll just be added again next time you boot your nuvi.

What I do is import all my data into Basecamp, then delete everything off my nuvi. Amend/edit/add all the data in Basecamp then send it all back to my nuvi in one hit. Having done so and ensured it all shows I then delete temp.gpx, which is the file sent by Basecamp.

Wow that is incredibly short sighted. I'm guessing this has been discussed before but really this is stupid. Thanks for the reply though!
  • Not really. Basecamp wasn't originally designed to interact with nuvis and nuvis weren't set up to work with it. Handhelds on the other hand do work well with Basecamp and you can delete/amend at will.
  • Don't agree...

The newer zumo's (3x0 and 590) are designed to work with BaseCamp, and BaseCamp did get features specific for these devices. However, it isn't possible to remove waypoints/routes/tracks from them with BaseCamp, just as with the nüvi's. The nüvi's and zumo's have very much in common.

While it isn't possible to change this behaviour by modifying BaseCamp only (due to the way zumo's/nüvi's work internally), Garmin was able to change it in the newer handhelds (older models didn't support direct deletion either), so I can't think of a good reason why they didn't implement it for newer zumo's and nüvi's.
