Transfer exaxt route to Nuvi 55?

Is there any trip planning software I can use that will transfer exact routes to a Nuvi 55? I've tried Mapquest, the HOG trip planner + the built in trip planner, none seems to transfer exact routes (unless I'm doin it wrong). This is for leading motorcycle rides and the exact route MUST be followed. THANX
  • Basically none that will guarantee it. But using Basecamp and ensuring you use the same map as loaded to your nuvi, together with same routing/avoidance settings should give you a very close match. Where it doesn't insert vias as necessary so it does.

But you're probably using the wrong device, the Zumo range (so I believe) is far better suited to motorcyclists.

Suggestion: If you cannot get the Nuvi 55/56 trip planner to create the exact route that you want, then alter your course and have everyone follow the course that the Nuvi does create. IIRC the Trip Planner supports as many as 29 waypoints per route, and all of these waypoints may need to be installed on every device, with recalculation in mind. If a rider misses a check point (one of the 29 waypoints), but is close, the Nuvi will recalculate regardless. Try it out locally by creating a "bus stop" route to see how the device reacts when stops are ridden through without pausing.

Also try to load a track file that shows the preferred route on each device.

Thanx for the help, but I'm not sure what you mean by "track file".
  • You can't load tracks to a nuvi ... but I believe you can to a zumo

Thanks for the info Sussamb. In my limited experience with Garmin devices I have "exported" a Nuvi gpx file containing tracks (breadcrumb point to point records of paths traveled) from a Nuvi 56 and displayed those tracks in BaseCamp and another application with which I am familiar, but have not tried to import tracks back into the Nuvi. The Nuvi 56 thinned out the saved track points rather efficiently, by the way.

I responded on this thread only to suggest that the Original Poster, with BaseCamp experience as limited as my own, may have success building a usable route on the device using only the Nuvi 55 Trip Planner.

Well, I tried the HD Ride Planner again + this time it was a success. I adjusted the suggested route using waypoints + it uploaded the exact route I wanted to my Nuvi 55. This is gonna be great! I've tried using Basecamp + IMO it's not user friendly. This is my third Garmin, finally found one that does exactly what I needed. Thanx for the help!
