Oregon 650 serial connection to Basecamp doesn't work consistently

I've been having trouble connecting my new Oregon 650 to my PC via serial connection (USB), it is hit or miss on when the GPS recognizes the serial connection and goes into USB mode. Most time the GPS starts up and then shuts itself down with no connection. Everything else on the GPS is working fine. Is this a known issue? Running Basecamp on Windows 7.

BaseCamp doesn't support serial (COM port) connections.

The Oregon 650 doesn't support serial connections without a special (USB) cable so I'm confused. The default USB cable should work just fine.

I leave my Oregon 600 in "Spanner" mode without issues.

I have not seen this problem with my similar setup. If you are lucky perhaps your cable is giving out. If not so lucky maybe the connector on your Oregon is having trouble. Good luck.
