Route Directions - now include Shaping points - is this correct?

Using 4.4.6 and Direct Mode Profile.
Upto version 4.2.5, whilst the Route "Properties" tab listed Selected waypoints and shaping points,
the "Route Directions" tab showed only the selected waypoints.
This latter information was a valuable and tidy summary of key route data.
I now seems that the shaping points are duplicated in the "Route Directions".
If I modify a route originally prepared under 4.2.5 then, whilst initially "Route Directions" only show Waypoints,
the modified (by dragging on map) section now includes the new shaping points.
It would seem that with new routes the "Properties" and the "Route Directions" Tabs generally include
identical information (together with summaries).
The only visible difference being that in "Route Directions" all the intermediate waypoints and via points are listed with orange flags.
Is there a setting that I'm missing that will tidy things up.
Thanks in anticipation.
  • I don't think anything changed, but I don't have 4.2.5 to test my belief. In 4.4.6, if a shaping point is set in the route properties to be announced on arrival, that point in Route Directions will show with a yellow flag. If instead it is set to Do Not Announce on Arrival, then it will not show in the route directions.
  • C14_Rider. Many thanks for your solution. I can now see that under the "Properties" Tab the offending shaping points are solid black and not grey.
This obviously indicates those for announcement. By selecting these and right clicking to "Don't Alert on Arrival (Shaping Point)" they are cleared completely from "Route Directions". Is there anyway to set default to "Don't Alert" for shaping points? This must have been the case up to version 4.2.5
  • There's no application-wide default for it. But using the insert tool to create a shaping point, if you drag the "rubber band" line to an area near an intersection of two roads, the pop-up description will, within a certain distance of the intersection, change to call out that intersection, like "Clark Dr and University Ave". Click when it says that, and the point will snap to the intersection, and such points are by default not announced. Any intersection will do, it need not be one where you expect to make a turn, only one that you want the route to pass through.

Another case, I believe, is if you place a shaping point on a highway like a divided lane interstate (in the US), where there are no numbered addresses, this will also default to unannounced. But in this case be sure you zoom in close enough to make sure it is on the correct side, or direction, of a multi-lane roadway, otherwise it will go out of its way getting you to the wrong side of the highway and then back on your way..

One interesting sidelight is that, in the route properties tab, if you copy a shaping point that you created and insert it in another route that you want to go through the same place, it will append a "1" to the name of the point, and it will be announced. This can also happen if you try to select the same intersection for a shaping point twice in the same list, it will also sometimes show as announced. And remember that on most devices, if you change an announced point to unannounced, it will still show as flagged and announced when you transfer the route to the device. For all but newer devices (I'm not clear exactly which ones), the point must have been originally created as unannounced for it to stay unannounced on the device.

    Hope this helps.
