Routes sent to handheld not editable on GPS

I believe this may have been raised before but just posted on the geocaching forums is that routes sent to an Etrex 30 aren't editable on the GPS. Just tried on my Montana and Etrex 20 with the same result. Is this intentional or a bug?
  • Well as I said in my linked post I think the rationale is that if you've plan a route on a computer and transfer it you want the unit to follow that route.

BTW such pre-planned routes can have Direct sections and those won't be recalculated. The route is taken "as is".

I wish this was true on the eTrex. On my 64s I can set off route recalculation to off or prompted. On my eTrex 20 this is not an option so it will recalculate the route and can try to send me a different way.

If Garmin turns this off and does allow editing route in the Device, then we will lose the feature to load a pre-calculated routeable in the device and follow it without recalculation by the handheld. And every route in the handheld will be a direct route again (as it was till 2 years ago?) And I guess that if you want to edit a pre-calculated routeable route in an handheld, its amount of via-points is overwhelming.

I know that a GPSmap 276c and 278 are reacting the same on this matter and showing a car symbol in front of the pre calculated route (so there is some consistency). Loading the route twice, one calculated and on direct will help you also.
