Offline maps for Satnavs and GPS mudules

Hi,

I'm interested in adding routes and tracks to maps offline. I have a Garmin Nuvi 2595lm also GPS modules, that output NMEA sentences. I have had a quick look at Opentreetmaps, but got the impression that they weren't too detailed. I would like good maps that show detail, like google earth. I live in the Uk, so am mainly interested in maps that cover here, and perhaps Europe. I would be happy to buy the maps, as long as they aren't to costly.

Does anyone know of a program where I could do this please?

Camerart.
  • You can use Basecamp to read the map off your 2595, or even install it onto your PC, or am I missing what you're after?
  • Hello Camerart,

What do you mean by "more detail"? Do you mean more streets, points of interest, etc? Or do you mean like topographical information with elevation lines and rivers and lakes and stuff like that? Or do you mean like aerial/satellite views that are actually real pictures of the earth from above?

If you want Google Maps style aerial photographic views, use Google Earth. That will let you work offline with tracks and routes and you can combine the aerial views with the road map views overlaid on top if you wish.
