Software update has removed all waypoints from etrex30

I have been using Basecamp successfully to create and transfer sets of waypoints to the microsd card in my etrex 30. Garmin just put up a software update (Software version 4.20). The Waypoint Manager now reports 'No results found. Try adjusting search parameters' even though the file 'Waypoints' exists in the GPX folder in the Garmin folder on the card, exactly as it always did. I have tried sending another set of waypoints from Basecamp to the device, but these aren't shown either.
What has this software update done? Where are the waypoints? How can I use them on the etrex?

Try this. Delete the waypoints off the Etrex then remove the Etrex from the PC and remove the card and boot the Etrex without the card. Switch off, reconnect your Etrex to your PC and resend the way points. Should now work.

Most if not all Garmin handhelds can suffer with this. Generally if it happens when you're out and/or without access to a PC simply removing the card, doing a boot without the card installed, then reinstalling the card and booting again should solve it. It's why many of us tend to place waypoints, route, geocaches etc onto the card rather than internal memory.
