User Data Problem after Basecamp Update to 4.4.6

User Data Problem after Basecamp Update to 4.4.6. Using Windows 8.1
Problems with user data after updating directly from 4.2.5 to 4.4.6
Before updating I tidied up "My Collection" with a new total of 7 Folders and did a Basecamp backup.
I performed the update but strangely the data seems to have reverted automatically to an earlier outdated collection with 4 Folders.
Even a Restore from the new backup file has no effect.
When I uninstall 4.4.6 and reload 4.2.5 the required "7 Folder Collection" is returned automatically.

Try renaming the Base Camp data folder 4.2 to 4.4

OK, I'm confused. I always assumed that since new features are sometimes added in a new BC version, the developers would naturally (at least sometimes) need to change the format or construct of the database the app uses. Thus the need for the "restore from previous version" command, which should place the old data into the new database format. So the renaming of the previous version database folder and use of the old database in the new BC version would seem to me to have the potential to cause problems. Yet in this thread and another, this seems to work.

Where am I misguided in my view of how this works?
