I stopped using MapSource long ago and had switched to MS Streets & Trips which has been working great but unfortunately is getting more and more outdated since MS discontinued it. I tried using BaseCamp back in the day only to find that it was mainly geared towards hiking, climbing etc. After doing some research I've found that BaseCamp has been updated to be a little more robust. So I decided to give it a try tonight and so far it's pretty decent. I love the fact that you can now optimize routes right from BaseCamp which was something that MapSource was lacking.

In any case, one issue I ran into was that BaseCamp doesn't seem to use the same type of search algorithm that the Nuvi unit does. As seen in the screenshot below, I was searching for a local Best Buy and BaseCamp wasn't able to find the address whereas my 3597LMTHD was. I tried playing around with the search results removing the city, zip code, removing the "st" etc, but to no avail. I also tried using MapSource to search for the same address and was able to find it no problem!

It seems like BaseCamp has come a long way, I'm wondering why such a basic/major feature would not work seeing as how the search feature within the Nuvi itself works just fine.

Did you have the CN NA map selected in Basecamp?

If so try inputting just 5000 and Hawthorne .... does that produce a result?

Of course, CN NA 2015.3, and I've already searched other addresses and it was able to find SOME but not all.

Been doing a little more research and found that most people are suggesting that BaseCamp doesn't use the same search index like MapSource and Nuvi does. Is that what the issue is?

BTW, here is what I got when I tried what you suggested...

Basecamp developers will no doubt chime in ... but maybe not until Monday :)

Not sure why but Basecamp search feature does seem to struggle compared with Mapsource.

I also assume you had both POIs and addresses selected?

Wow this is weird, ok so if I run the address search from "Find > Find Addresses" BaseCamp will not return any results. However, if I run the search directly from the search bar WITHOUT the Address Advanced menu showing, then it works!

The BaseCamp data storage sequences seem to be quite complicated and quite comprehensive. However in this particular address search it may be that the CAlifornia state field can get confused with the CAnada country field if an error is made and the backspace key is used. In addition, there is the issue of the ST abbreviation of street getting confused with the ST abbreviation of Saint, which could again take the result north to Canada. This did not necessarily seem to happen until after a typo was made in the original data entry.

Just adding an extra comma in the search field may bring unexpected results. So it may be necessary to just start over with the Find process in the Toolbar menu to get the desired address. Try, try, again - and be careful with the CSV.

Not really. This behaviour of different results whether you use the search bar versus the detailed search function has been noted numerous times.

Yes, it's weird that there is a difference but the fact of the difference has long been known and even occasionally acknowledged by the Garmin developers.

Yes, and search for UK addresses is also broken and a case opened ... but it's still weird :)
