The zumo doesn't support custom waypoint symbols.
An anlternative is to use POI files; in that case you can create your own symbols.

Yes, you can use up to 64 custom symbols in Basecamp. In order to use custom symbols in BC they need to be saved in a folder labeled "Custom Waypoint Symbols" in the "My Garmin" directory.

The symbols should be no larger than 32 x 32 pixels. and should be saved as either 24-bit .BMP or Portable Network Graphics .PNG file format. the name of the files must be 000.bmp through .063.bmp.

Part of the image may be made transparent by using RGB coler 255,0,255 Magenta. I use Microsoft Paint to create, edit and re-size custom symbols.

I've attached an example coffee cup symbol.

you answered my query 100% and some more :) Thanks for the cup. Hope your not charging royalty as I am using it already. Just can't believe that they don't have the most important symbol as standard.
