Route won't recalculate?

Hi,

I've made a couple routes a month ago or so, for the first time, using basecamp, as I was getting used to using the software. All was good, no problems. This morning I tried to make a new route and it won't recalculate at all? I just get a straight line as the crow flies, from two waypoints?

Garmin BaseCamp version 4.2.5 for windows. I checked for software update under the help file and no update available. Rebooted the computer, no change.

Which activity profile is selected? Sounds like it could be the direct profile? Or a non routeable map is selected?

Are you running Windows XP? If so 4.2.5 is the newest version but if you are running newer Windows BaseCamp 4.4.6 is the latest and can be downloaded at http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4435

What profile are you using? What map are you using? If you are using direct routeing or a non routeable map you will get a straight line.

motorcycle is my default. I tried switching that to driving, direct, back to motorcycle, no change.

Then which map is selected? Could it just be the basemap?

Had a saved route that i made awhile ago. Opened it up, clicked recalculate, now it's just a straight line and wont recalculate.

Uninstall/reinstall basecamp?

Global Map is just a basemap not a detailed map. That means there is very often too little routing data in a particular area to allow a route to be calculated.

Routing data is something you cannot see on a map. That is, the map display of the basemap might be showing a road or highway but the necessary data to route along them may not be present in the map database. I've done a bit of testing with Global Map 2.0 and I'm not sure there is any routing data in it.

I don't see any other map options to select from? It all worked a few weeks ago when I was using the basecamp.

Go into Maps on the toolbar. ... you'll see the installed maps there. Choose something other than Global Map.

I think I figured it out. I didn't have my zumo 660 plugged into the pc, so I hooked it up and that seemed to solve my issue. Thanks for your help here on the forum!

It was the map then. Good to know it's sorted.
