Can not import some waypoints

Using Basecamp 4.4.4 I am trying to import data from my new Oregon 650. Some of the points will import but others will not. It happens using "copy" or "send to" or "receive" when I am trying to get them into "My Collection". I do have old data I need in "my collection" from my Etrex 20 that I lost. When I try to bring the new Waypoints from the device into "my collection" then click on one(example 013)it goes on the map to an old waypoint from over a year ago collected with my Etrex 20. The new 013 collected on my Oregon 013 does not move over. Waypoints with unique names do appear to move over from the device to new lists or new lists folders---but if the name is not unique to "my collection" it does not appear to move over. I should not have to rename all my waypoints should I?
Thank you
Todd
  • Well no, in and ideal situation you would not have to rename them. Unfortunately you do using Basecamp. Waypoints need to have unique names.
  • Just remember that what you see in BC is not the data but a pointer to it. So you can't have two 'pointers' the same, so the waypoint names cannot be the same. IIRC at some point there was talk about allowing identical names provided they were in different lists, but I'm not sure how far that idea got
  • BaseCamp used to allow importing objects with existing names. It would automatically create a new name for the new object by appending a number to the name. This is no longer true?

I know users have requested that. I also know that you can (now) have lists (and folders?) of the same name.

As for data objects I doubt that'll happen due to the underlying database format adopted by Garmin.

    Thanks everyone

Yes I think I am used to software that does append something on the name of identical items-atleast to display them. Should BC not atleast warn you what is about to happen? If I import data from my device then delete if off the device then go into BC to try to view it -it brings up my old data from last year. My new data is then lost or atleast harder to find isn't it? Shouldn't BC atleast bring up a message saying the waypoints you are trying to import have the same name as existing waypoints and this could make things difficult?
