I'm a newbee so forgive me any transgressions that I may commit. I have just received a new Montana 650 and find it to be satisfactory in most areas. One exception is track management between BaseCamp and the Montana. When tracks are created or loaded to BC, they automatically default to "Show On Map" and can be deleted in mass or individually. When they are down loaded to the Montana they default to "Hide on Map" and must be deleted one at a time. My previous Garmin device was an etrex Venture, Which worked like BC. Garmin gave us in the Montana with 200 tracks instead of 20 but took away the ability to manage them other than one track at a time. I know the delete problem can be solved by connecting to a computer and deleting them from the Montana storage, but that is not a very elegant approach, WayPoints can be deleted in mass on the Montana. I will be using the Montana for mapping horse trail at different trialrides and because of the way tracks work, I may have as many as 80 tracks to map an area. I back them up to a PC and then reload them as needed. I looked for settings that would solve the problem but found none. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Not sure which problem you're trying to solve but if it's to delete tracks 'en masse' then you have the solution, to use BC. If you want the ability to do the same on Montana try posting your idea here http://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/
..... I know the delete problem can be solved by connecting to a computer and deleting them from the Montana storage, but that is not a very elegant approach......
That is an understatement!! Particularly when you are without the computer!!
We have been lobbying Garmin for years to be able to Hide/Show all tracks on the Montana or at least have the Montana recognize a flag in the gpx file to hide or show that track when transferred from BC, without success.
What I do is after transferring new tracks to the Montana, set them all to Show and leave them that way until I remove them all with BC. If I only have a dozen or so I may Show/Hide them as needed, but with more than that I lose track. Many, many times on a trip I have missed a couple and not even noticed it, so now I just turn them all on right after uploading......which may take 20 minutes!
Also, I use red exclusively for tracks to help differentiate from routes.
It's just one of the irritations you have to live with on the Montana.
