How can I stop Basecamp from prompting/installing automatic updates. I have heard that the new versions are not supporting zumo 500 and 600 series units

I am afraid this is not supported.

But you DO get a prompt from which you can cancel the update, n'est pas? I have been refusing all updates for months now. And it seems to go away for an undetermined time, iterations of program start, whatever.

While we understand some users prefer to stay with older versions for various reasons, it is always recommended to use the latest version.

After all the problems and outright bugs discussed here in the last few months you wonder WHY I refuse to upgrade?:(

Maybe in a few months if 4.4.4 has not needed more fixing I might take the risk. For now, 4.3.3 is working on my systems (W7 & W8) and since you haven't changed the irritating behavior of balloons yet (arguably the single most annoying feature of BC), I'll wait. Nothing personal.

I don't understand. Why do you (Basecamp developers) recommend -- and now force -- automatically updating to newer versions that are basically beta versions?

I might possibly understand this position if there was some sort of well-managed beta testing program in place and the forced auto update releases were solid and proven. But that isn't the case.

It seems to me that any company that believes in customer satisfaction would, in any case, allow a customer to make their own choice about when to upgrade; to pick a time that is convenient to them for the upgrade. Or even to stay on a release that is working for them, at least until there is good evidence in here that a more recent release is solid and the stuff they need [still] works properly.

We have already seen instances in here where someone was in a hurry to do some last minute planning before heading out on a trip only to launch Basecamp and get slapped in the face with an auto update that stole the users time and then ended up breaking something that they needed at that moment.

Anyone who thinks that is good customer service needs an intervention.

    ...ken...

Knowing the pesky balloons will still be there, I still upgrade. If I'm engaged in a project for a future trip, I'll decline the upgrade and deal with it later (like after I do another backup!).

This is another reason to stay with Mapsource.
