BaseCamp is 4.4.4 now available and can be downloaded here:

http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4435

This release does not support XP.

Installation of this version will overwrite your previous BaseCamp installation.

Here are the changes made in this version:
  • Fixed several issues when using the Pan Tool and the <ALT> key to move route points
  • Fixed autorouting issue where straight line segments were inserted after each waypoint
  • Improved track to route behavior. Now supports preserving the shape of track sections that aren't near a road.
  • Improved handling in situations where the computer is low on memory
  • Changed displayed route times to take layovers into account
  • Fixed issue with 'higher education' map symbols showing up as airports
  • Fixed certain instances of route direction text where the text was 'turn left/right' instead of 'bear left/right'
  • Fixed issue when recalculating a route via the context menu in the data list
  • Fixed various issues sending data to memory cards
  • Changed to automatically unlock BirdsEye for a device when sending the BirdsEye to a card in that device
  • Fixed various issues with Adventure search
  • Fixed issue sending ADM files to cards for marine devices
  • Added the command line option /Disable3D to disable the 3D view in BaseCamp. This was added to prevent startup issues with misbehaving graphics drivers.

Post here if you have questions.

The non-English language version of the software will be available through the in-application software update check shortly.

Please post any bugs you may find here.

Thank you all in advance for any feedback you may have.

*4.4.3 as a version number was skipped to be in-line with the Mac version.

Can you give me your exact repro steps?

What windows do you have open? Are you inserting find results?

My original posting on this below
    - I do not have any windows open
    - I do not add find results
    - I just click on the route to add a via (with hand-tool selected - depending on setting under options with or without ALT pressed)

When adding a via to a route you can use the insert button OR use the drag-option (via ALT, or not using ALT).

It seems the drag-option causes the via's to be placed in the wrong order; thus damaging the route.

E.g. check the sample at http://forum.gps.nl/download/file.php?id=3313

At the right-top there is a difference. Try to add via's to the blue route to make it same as the pink route.
Using the insert-button it's no problem; using the drag-option you'll see the sequence of the via's is incorrect:

    If the original is 1 - 2 - 4 - 5 and you try to add point 3 between 2 and 4 it turns out as 1 - 3 - 2 - 4 - 5.....

The "Alt" based insert is between the two nearest points along the segment.

For example, if point 3 is being added and you drag the dubber band to a new point, that new point will appear between 1 and 2. Basically you are inserting into the middle of an already defined segment of the route. So the output you are describing seems correct. The best way to have precision is to use the + key in the route dialog, or drag an item into a route.

Does this help? If not I will look further.

No no.... that is not what is causing this. I have vast experience with adding via's; believe me: this is a bug. Just give it a try, with any route and compare adding a via trough dragging (which is quite new, but worked ok in previous version) and the add via button. The sequence will be different. Try the sample I posted and try to add the detour to the 2nd route using the 'alt based' insert. Good luck!

I am able to reproduce this using the blue route in the linked GPX file. However other (smaller) routes that I create do not have this sequence issue. Thanks for reporting this.

First time I allowed the new version to load it stopped about 60% of the way (according to the bar), so I just cancelled it and everything still worked as before. A few days ago the new version loaded okay and mostly seems to work as it always did.

However, when I use the find dropdown menu & select points of interest (which generates the list on the right-hand side of the screen), the category dropdown doesn't do anything anymore; everything is displayed all the time regardless of which category I choose. I often choose either lodging or food and drink to see what's near a business contact or my hotel. I don't use 95% of what BC can do, but this I do use regularly.

I don't remember seeing anyone else report this. I'm running a corporate version of Win 7, and this is the first time I've had any issues of any kind with BC updates.

The elapsed time function seems to have a bug. When I am planning trips with a start time for next year, it seems to be including all time between now and then.

Let me know if you need more details.

    Thanks!

Can you please send me an e-mail with an attached GPX file (exported from BaseCamp) with a route that has this issue? Send to [email protected]
