Every time I connect my montana which has a mSD card inside, which itself has BE images on it.. the PC will take about 1 hour doing something while reading the contents of the mSD card. during which time I cannot do anything with the contents of the mSD..

the PC must be storing the BE images on the C drive "again".. because along with the long wait also I lose another 10-15GB of space on my C drive whenever I connect it.

"THIS IS RIDICULOUS"... I put a case here on this forum in 2012 (username seedee) when it first started to annoy me.. no one answered, now it is beyond a joke.. Hello are you listening GARMIN...????

How can I delete some images and regain my C drive space..? which is basically now being eaten up by BE and wasted.. it would not be so bad if the image quality was good, but the areas which I downloaded (empty quarter desert) are rubbish..

C:\Users\CDADMIN\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\BaseCamp\JnxFiles is more than 200GB
C:\Users\CDADMIN\AppData\Local\Garmin\BaseCamp\TileCache is over 40GB
C:\Users\CDADMIN\AppData\Local\Garmin\BaseCamp\DeviceCache is over 40GB

what sort of software is this..? you can not move the BE files, you can not save them in a different directory at installation...

this is just not good enough..

I think you're mistaken. Basecamp won't copy BE files onto your hard drive AFAIK. What you're probably seeing is Basecamp indexing everything on your Montana, this enables it to use it quicker next time. Let it finish and next time it shouldn't do it.

If it is only indexing why does it take so much space each an every time I insert an mSD containing BE images.. it makes a folder in the DeviceCache of 10gb which is the same size as the images on the mSD, and with the same names as well, so it is copying them..

and why so long.. literally 1 hour for about 170 images (10gb) on a 16gb mSD.. this is ridiculous...

and it happens each time I connect even if it is the same mSD as before, so that is 10GB and 1 hour lost every time I connect it..

How do I recover my space..?
Can I delete the "DeviceCache" sub folders when I don't need to use a particular mSD card for a while..?

this BE setup is really something else, not in a good way..

Well I hear what you say but don't believe that's what is happening. I think you'll need to wait until one of the Basecamp team pop by ... they know more than I about the inner workings of Basecamp, I'm just a user like you.

Interesting. Do you have the latest version of Basecamp? What operating system?

You might as well, at least delete the old cache files.

I just did a test and the OP is correct. Any Birdseye is copied to the cache page every time you connect.

I am using win7 pro 64bit. Ver 4.4.2 the latest. But this has been happening ever since I started using BE images.
yes I can delete the old caches. But it stil takes around an hour after connection to be able to use the stuff on the mSD card..
as pointed out back in 2012.. why are we foreced to keep two copies.. one on the pc in C drive when downloaded and another in the cache.. again on Cdrive
Waste of time and space...
