Exporting track info for sharing with others

Hello everybody,

I was on a trek in Greece with some fellow walkers which lasted for 11 days and we covered 200 km. I was the only one with a gps unit ( Garmin etrex30) and i had recorded all our tracks (11 tracks).

I upload the tracs in basecamp and i connect them in order to have one track of our whole journey but now i want to send all the info of the whole track to my fellow walkers (total of elevation, avg speed, kilometrical coverage, stopping time, walking time etc)..

One way to do it is through Garmin Adventures but i prefer not to publish the track in the Adventure community

Another way is the through Garmin Connect but my fellow walkers are not connected on this community and the most of them are not into any social media.

Is there any way that i can export this data and send it via mail or upload it in another database? is it possible to have a map with the route on it as well?

thank you very much for your time

You could move all the tracks to a List in BaseCamp and then export the list as a gpx file and then send that file to your fellow walkers as an attachment to an email.

If you are into Google Maps you might also be able to make a "My Maps" map, upload the GPX file to your MyMaps map and then share a link with your fellow walkers. I have not tried this and don't know if it is possible but it might be. You may have to convert the gpx file to a kml or kmz file before the upload.

    Thnx for the info.

Although, if i'm getting it right, when i'll send them the gpx file, they need to have basecamp (or another program) to be able to run the file. It won't be possible just to open the file and see our journey info with a click at their inbox.

I'll check the ''My Maps'' option... sounds plausible!

    Any other ideas out there?

    thnx again:D
  • This really depends what you expect them to do with it?

There are numerous websites that will read gpx files and display them on a map. I'm not sure which country you're in but can give you numerous UK sites with UK maps.

Equally you could use the Windows 'snip tool' to grab a screen pic of Basecamp displaying the track on a map.

I just want them to be able to see our whole route on the map and also to see the route's total info.

I live in UK but the trek was in Greece. Can you please provide me with these information?

    I'll check about 'snip tool'!

    thnx for your response Sussamb
  • You can upload them to garmin connect and share them to everyone, you just have to set the security of the specific activities. This way they don't have to subscribe or create an account on garmin connect. Otherwise, you can send them gpx or kml files and tell them to open the files in google earth. They'll be impressed by the route playing
