Whenever I click on the icon to 'Create New Route' the box that jumps up defaults to 'Hiking'. Even if I simply close this box and create the new route anyway, in the properties box it show 'Hiking' once again and I have to click on Driving (which obviously involves BC doing a quick recalculation) in order to get the route I want. Is there any way of changing this 'Hiking' default setting or am I stuck with it?
Yes I do that but as I indicated, it doesn't stick and as soon as I click on a point to start a route the profile reverts to Hiking once more with the result that I get a totally unrealistic route. Opening the Properties box and changing it to Motoring (after the route has been created) invokes an automatic recalculation and results in a route that one would indeed travel by car. I have to disagree with you with the intimated suggestion that Hiking is the default and therefore I shall just have to live with it. Surely this must be a bug? It cannot be the case that every user who is wanting to create a motoring route is first forced to create a hiking route and then force the recalculation by opening the Properties box. This obviously involves far more stages than necessary and cannot have been the designers intention?
I never suggested Hiking was the default for everyone, but it's clearly set as the default for you. To change it you should be able to change it as I explained in the drop down box and it should then 'stick', I suspect you're not changing it in the correct drop down box.
It's not the one you see when you open the route tool. It should be in your toolbar as a separate drop down box that is visible without selecting the route tool. If it doesn't show by default, you need to do what I suggested in my first post to make it visible. Once you've changed it there it will appear every time you click on the route tool.
