Editing my tracks in Basecamp

The lines have been created either because you didn't 'clear current track' before starting your walk/cycle whatever or because you didn't then save the track when you completed the walk etc. Your Oregon is simply 'filling in the gaps' between when the points where it was without a signal.

You can delete the parts you don't want either by using the split tool in Basecamp or by opening the track properties and deleting the points.

OK, thanks. So there is not an easy way like "unjoin" or something. I always leave all my tracks on there, but don't necessarily name or save them. I tried deleting the last points, but it just closes the loop with the next point. I guess I'll just have to save the tracks to one list, and delete them all on another. That should unclutter it.

Well, there is a "divide track" command. Open the track, select the point at which you want to divide it, right click, select "divide track". Then you can delete the unwanted portion of the original track and rename the new one.

If you open the track and shift click some points, that portion will turn gold on the map telling you what will be deleted, and you can continue holding the shift key and clicking down the list until you get what you want. Hint: if you select a point and use Ctrl-home or Ctrl-end it will select every point to either beginning or end, very handy for long tracks that need editing.

The closing the loop behavior is annoying, but if you select the correct points it won't do that. It takes some experimenting.

Must say I find it easier to use the split route/track tool as you can see the map and where you're splitting it, but whatever works for you.
