Connecting GPSMap64ST to Basecamp on my Laptop

I connect my 64ST to my laptop Windows 7 and get an error message "There was an error in communicating with GPSMap64ST

An error occurred while reading the following files:

Garmin/GPX/Current/Current.gpx
Garmin/GPX/Garmin Waypoints.gpx

etc."

The maps on this garmin are readable on Basecamp, despite this message, but I am unable to transfer routes or waypoints from Basecamp to the GPSMap64ST. Whenever I use "send to the device I get the same error message, and they don't show up on the device. I don't know that the message and the issue are related but presume they are.

Hope someone can help, I am brand new to GPS devices.

Unfortunately it sounds like these files are corrupt. In my experience Current.gpx (on multiple models) gets corrupted when one is recording large track/trip logs.

These files are plain text (XML) files and it is quite possible your data can be recovered (I've done it may times). In some cases corruption is very minor (a missing XML tag or two) and in others it very hard/not worth the effort.

If you upload the files somewhere and post links I/others can take a look.

Is it advisable to use the safely remove hardware function in Windows when disconnecting my GPS from the laptop.

Yes. That advice applies to any removable device.

As for your files: Current.gpx looks ok as do all the others. They all opened fine in MapSource. Perhaps your USB connection was flaky when BC tried to read them.
